Ben has been a Denver student all his life, starting at Slavens and continuing to DSST: Stapleton. He went on to Pomona College in Claremont, California where he studied everything from combinatorial math to native American history. He graduated with a degree in political theory, a serious inability to surf, and a deep appreciation for air conditioning.
His second love, and the subject of his thesis, was summer camp. Ben spent seven consecutive summers on the Geneva Glen Camp staff in Indian Hills, Colorado, doing everything from directing camp plays to working as the Head Male Counselor. He counseled over 1,000 campers from ages 6-16, organized hundreds of all-camp games, and once fit 80 grapes in his mouth.
Since graduating, Ben returned to Denver to teach Biology at DSST:Stapleton. He then moved to San Diego where he earned a master's degree at High Tech High’s Graduate School of Education. He worked full time as a dean in a High Tech High school, one of the premier project-based learning schools in the country.
Ben works at the CUBE because he believes that there are ways to teach high school content that engages students. He aims to make school a place that acknowledges students' passions and pushes them to find new passions. Above all, Ben works to meet students where they are, to challenge them toward their highest level of conduct, and to make sure they feel known and valued in our school.
