Ben has been a Denver student all his life, starting at Slavens and continuing to DSST: Stapleton. He went on to Pomona College in Claremont, California where he studied everything from combinatorial math to native American history. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in political theory.
His second love, and the subject of his thesis, was summer camp. Ben spent seven consecutive summers on the Geneva Glen Camp staff in Indian Hills, Colorado, doing everything from directing camp plays to working as the Head Male Counselor. He counseled over 1,000 campers from ages 6-16, organized hundreds of all-camp games, and once fit 80 grapes in his mouth.
Since graduating, Ben returned to Denver to teach Biology at DSST:Stapleton. He then moved to San Diego where he earned a master's degree at High Tech High’s Graduate School of Education. He worked full time as a dean in a High Tech High school, one of the premier project-based learning schools in the country.
Ben works at the CUBE because he believes that there are ways to teach high school content that engages students and pushes them to pursue their own passions. He wants school to be something to look forward to. Most of all, Ben wants his students to know two things. First, that he puts all his energy into designing classes that you will enjoy. And second, that you should not put pineapple on pizza.
